Database Design & Implementation
- Dr.Parker was absolutely fantastic to work with. I really appreciated that he was readily available both in and out of the classroom, and willing to provide mentorship on top of instruction. I find it hard to realistically expect to have another professor of his caliber in the future, and I am beyond glad that I was able to take INFO 4407 with him.
- He is a great professor who wants the best for the student. Always available when you need help to understand any concept in the class.
- Professor Parker has been one of the best Professors I've ever had at ISU. Even through the zoom class, I could tell he knew his stuff and cared about his students a lot. He would make jokes during the meetings to make sure we were all engaged, and really made his class a fun one, even though it was through zoom. He was available for help outside of class, and worked hard to make sure we understood the material. I really appreciated all the work he did to make our class both enjoyable, and a place to learn. I really appreciated how willing he was to work with his students. Overall an amazing professor that I would love to take another class from.
- At the beginning of the course, I was not looking forward to database design. I thought it would be a boring subject that I wouldn't care for. Professor Parker did a phenomenal job of making the topics interesting and explaining just how important databases are. I remember one weekend I went home and was mentioning some of the things we'd been learning to my dad, and I found out he actually works in depth with data bases for his job. We were able to have a really good conversation about it thanks to what I'd learned from Professor Parker. He has been an amazing professor, and I wish I could take another class from him next semester.
- I really appreciated that there was a full-term project that involved group work. It was very nice to be able to implement the coursework into a real-world project, and directly experience the outcome.
- I loved the videos and he was very engaging in person. He helped our group a lot! I learned so much about SQL and have an interest in databases now! The mini quizzes were also super useful to practice for the exams.
- I like how he never treated me like I was dumb, even though I'm a woman. :) I really appreciated it! Thank you.

Web Dev: Client-Side Programming
- Dr. Parker is highly invested in student achievement and success. He does a great job of reaching out and providing resources.
- The professor was very accessible for help outside of class. That helped me a lot. The homework and demos alsoallowed me to learn a lot through practice.
- I really like how well the notes are organized and how thorough they are.
- Dr. Parker was very prompt, kind, and helpful when responding to questions.
- The homework assignments were more challenging and involved.
- Responsive and quick to return grades.
Database Design & Implementation
- The online course materials the professor has produced.
- Group project forced us to practice the material.
- The most effective aspect of this course was the group assignment where I had a chance to get a hands-on experience with SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers and entity-relationship diagrams.

- Having the professor's webpage, lectures and lecture slides available for review and reference. Also the links with more information were sometimesvery helpful.

- Materials covered in this course were well organized and gave us a very good idea about DBMS. That is what I was expecting from this course. Well organized course plan. Course project was so good and I learned a lot from that.

- The professor was extremely helpful and would always respond in a very timely manner.
- The assignments were well made to make you learn how to properly interact with a database and construct queries. The notes were also helpful for showing how many problems were meant to be done.
- Even in the pandemic forced distancing this course was very effective and informative.

Database Design & Implementation
- I think the group project was one of the best things about this course. It was a great way to connect what we were learning in class with more of a real-world example. It really helped furthered my understanding of concepts and their practical applications. I also think that having a standardized version of the database that everyone was operating on was great: it made sure we were all on the same page, and kept us from making some design/implementation mistakes.
- The group project and how it made us apply the concepts in class.
- I appreciated the teacher’s personality and humor, and his love for the subject matter. It made what could have been grueling lectures more interesting, enjoyable, and effective.
- By having quizzes due each week, I was motivated to watch the lectures and study for them. By the same measure, I was motivated to work on the project each week with my team in order to meet the weekly project deliverables.
- I feel like the teacher genuinely cares about his students' success, and was very responsive to, and encouraging of, questions via email.
- Both the teacher and the course were awesome, I’d recommend them to anybody.
- I think the professor was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and also understanding of difficulties during these difficult times. I appreciated his dedication and patience for setbacks.

- Kevin's willingness to work with me outside of office hours and via email for help on the project.
- Dr. Parker was great to work with. I had an issue with one of the assignment, and he worked with me to make sure I got the concept correctly.
- Prof. Parker has always been a stellar instructor regardless of what class he is teaching.
- Very down to earth personality and high energy teaching style. Dr. Parker shows interest in the topics which helps keep the class engaged. I rate 8/8.

- Kevin Parker is an amazing professor. He's high energy. He's got great delivery, and he's obviously passionate about this topic.
- The professor was very genuine and I could tell that he cared about the students and worked hard to help them succeed, not only in the class, but in their general studies and careers.
- I think the overall project that we did in class helped for our understanding of the material. It showed the various aspects of making and organizing a business's needs into a visual form that can more readily be approachable to a wider audience.
- Many of the project deliverables helped me to understand the course material.

- Dr. Parker is a great professor who will give entertaining yet educational lectures. Is laid back when he can be still strict enough to keep you doing your work. Was very approachable for help outside of class.

- The semester project was sufficiently challenging without being impossible. The professor was fair and demonstrated genuine interest in the success and well-being of the students. The course material was valuable.

Dr Kevin Parker was my professor the first time in the Spring of 2008. I took his Introduction to Programming course (web development, html, css and javascript). Right away I knew was going to be an amazing professor. I can still remember one night as I was up late working on an assignment. I emailed Dr. Parker for some guidance. I knew it was absurdly late so I fully expected an answer in the morning. Within seconds I had a response via email. He was so quick, and he was up late helping his students. I was so impressed.
I have also always loved Dr. Parker's style of teaching. His lecture notes were and still are invaluable. I still go back and refer to them in times of forgetfulness. They were always so thorough and in depth. He never failed to find the answers, and not just the "book" answer but the practical ones also.
...One of my favorite traits that Dr. Parker has is he doesn't claim to know everything about everything. He is ok knowing that sometimes others understand something better than he (even if there aren't very many people who do). There were many times when Dr. Parker would ask for me to come back to his classes to "expound on" various topics, tricks or tips. He made a "young" student feel very good about his budding skills.
...Kevin always went out of his way to find job opportunities for me also. he was constantly recommending me for positions, or letting me know about things he heard about. In fact, the job I have at this current time is due, in most part, to Dr. Parker. He took teaching and made it his life. I am sure he sacrificed lots of time away from his wife and home just to help us "poor" students. If there were only other professors like him, then the university world would be a MUCH better place!

My favorite professors from school were you and Dr. Ottaway. Looking back at school, there are a number of reasons why you have left an impression on me.
First and foremost, you were both "real". You were both down-to-earth and easy to talk to regarding coursework, where I stood as a student in your class, etc.
You were both available. I realize with the positions that you both hold at ISU, your time comes at a premium. However, you were always available for students, whether in person, on the phone, or through email. We always knew that we came first in the hierarchy of things. I remember once not having an assignment entirely finished by the end of class. You were very understanding of my situation and offered me the opportunity to come to your house later on that evening to drop it off. Although you had a number of students and there was coursework that all needed to accomplish, you were flexible in how and when that coursework was accomplished because hey, students have jobs and lives to and sometimes need a little bit of leeway to balance all the "spinning plates". :) I think this is an area where you and Dr. Ottaway excelled. Your goals were to teach and to have information sink in for retention, not to have an assignment turned in on a strict and rigid timeline.
Another huge point, You had a syllabus clearly defined at the beginning of the semester and you stuck to it. There was structure to what you taught, any tangents in class were quickly redirected and brought back to the discussion at hand. Also, when a question was asked to which you did not have an immediate answer, you took note, got an answer, and usually presented it the next time we met.
I appreciated the fact that I always knew where I stood in your class. If I ever doubted, I could just ask and get a straight answer. There was not a lot of beating around the bush.
Finally, [one of my co-workers] talks about how he applied here at Farm Bureau as a result of a referral from you. So, I guess that when the new Software Quality Assurance Architect position was made here and he referred me, it was like you vicariously referring me here as well. ;)
A professor may be dedicated and care about his students, but those students have to see it. Being understanding of individual needs and having clearly defined coursework goes a long way to help that. Making sure that he follows up with any items left hanging "in the open" during class also shows his students that he cares enough after class to do the "homework" and follow up.

It has genuinely been a pleasure being taught by you. The most I have taken away from the MIS program has been from your classes. Your classes were harder than hell but I ended up learning a lot from them. You are truly an asset to the MIS program at SLU. I wanted to thank you for having the impact you did on my future. Your classes were the deciding factor if I was going to be an MIS major or not. I liked C, but never thought I would be able to major in the whole MIS thing cuz I did not understand very much. I also remember buying the books for your classes and thinking it was probably the biggest waste of money since I would drop the classes and have to figure out a new major (talk about self-confidence). But, anyways, I know sometimes all the teacher hears is the crabbing about the quizzes, programs, homework, and tests they give (sounds familiar), but I just wanted to tell you that I appreciated everything you have done for me in the past.

I wanted to tell you that everything that you said was true about using the stuff we learned in the MIS classes at SLU. I have already, in the first two weeks, encountered data flow diagrams, task flow diagrams, flowcharts, normalization, and just about everything else that you clowns in the DEPARTMENT taught me.
